Breakfast: 4 and 1/3 years old

I wake up at 6:30am and I already have a text from you saying, "I love yougoodmorning" with five kiss emoji. When I walk in call out to me, "Swallow!" (from Thumbelina) and I come to give you a big hug. Then we snuggle up in bed while you play with your "phone" (iPod). This morning you were listening to and singing along to Elvis and it was the sweetest thing. I try to rest while you're doing this because I'm so tired but you're usually talking to me. Today you were done with your iPod before 7am so I offered you books and went to the kitchen to make your hot cereal. We've circled back to the same hot cereal you loved when you were two, Bob's Red Mill 6 Grain.

I come back to bed and snuggle up and you ask me to read The Golden Goose from Fairy Tales and Fables. You already know it and correct me when I miss or transpose a word. You know all the stories because you read them every night with Daddy and have been for months now. You just got a new bed and a little book shelf right next to it so I grabbed The Little House and read that too. You decided we would stop on one of the pages toward the end of the book because you didn't want me to read the whole thing. I haven't been reading to you in a while but I'm slowly easing you back into that routine because I miss it.

You say you're ready for breakfast so I open the blinds and fold the blankets. We get up and you turn off the fan, because it's your job only. When we get to the kitchen you change the day and date on the calendar with ease but you frequently get a bit mixed up with how ordinal numbers work and want to end everything with th. You climb up on your stool, drink water, and eat diced apples while I make toast, waffles, and the hot cereal. Yesterday you talked about how Grandma likes her apples in slices but you like yours diced and wondered why she likes them sliced. Sometimes you want to get the apple from the crisper in the fridge by yourself. You always carry your bowl of hot cereal to the table and I carry everything else. You're pretty chatty during breakfast, always asking about things or telling me stories. You like to repeat the same stories and questions endlessly, like why you like a lot of maple syrup and I only like a little. You love maple syrup. When you're done eating you head to the living room and get on your bike while I wash dishes. You ride around the dining room in circles talking to me.
